OFF THE SEABED, THE DEBUT ALBUM BY FABIEN ENGER

PRESS RELEASE

Starting Saturday November 20 2024, “Off the Seabed”, the debut album from modern jazz trumpeter Fabien Enger, will be available on all streaming and download platforms, as well as through Inner Urge Music’s website. The album features the talented young pianist Justin Griggs and showcases a dynamic collaboration that won the Inner Urge Competition 2022, supported by a Vice Provost for the Arts Student Grant from Temple University, Philadelphia.

Hailing from different corners of the world, Fabien, a French-born trumpeter and Fulbright scholar, and Justin, a Philadelphia native, bring their diverse backgrounds and influences together to create a truly unique sound. Fabien draws inspiration from European jazz traditions, seamlessly blending his roots in both jazz and classical music. Justin, with deep roots in R&B and soul, grew up immersed in church music and further shaped his musical identity through influences from hip-hop, pop, and more.

Their connection goes beyond simple chemistry—it’s a brotherhood. Audiences can truly feel the profound bond and shared energy between them, both on stage and in the studio. The album combines original compositions and free-flowing improvisations, reflecting not only their shared passion for music but also their commitment to expanding the boundaries of modern jazz.
As this Franco-American duo continues to push their creative limits, “Off the Seabed” signals a new chapter in redefining the contemporary jazz landscape.

SHORT ARTIST BIO
Fabien Enger is one of the best up-and-coming trumpeter, improviser, bandleader, and composer emerging from the young French jazz wave. His remarkable journey between the US and Europe demonstrates his exceptional talent, making his artistry very authentic, grounded, and creative. Awarded a Fulbright scholarship in 2022 and the Arnaud Roujou de Boubée prize in 2023, Fabien graduated with a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from Temple University (Philadelphia) in 2024. At Temple, he studied under the mentorship of Terell Stafford, John Swana, Tim Warfield, Justin Faulkner, Elio Villafranca, and Dick Oatts. As a recipient of the NOUS Foundation (2023) and the Arthur King Peters Memorial Travel Grant (2024), he had the opportunity to deepen his American experience by immersing himself in the rich, vibrant, and historic jazz scenes of New Orleans, New York City, Washington D.C., and Chicago. These multiple artistic residencies and research projects allowed him to showcase his original music, connect with local artists, and engage with representatives from prominent musical and cultural institutions in each city. In addition to performing as a bandleader globally, he has collaborated and played with an impressive range of musicians, including Bobby Zankel, Chad Taylor, Nazir Ebo, Pheroann akLaff, Immanuel Wilkins, Sumi Tonooka, Lee Smith, Shakoor Hakeem, Andy Emler, Denis Badault, Jean Gobinet, Julien Charlet, Yves Torchinsky, and Misja Michel-Fitzgerald.
